Rhinehart Receives Heritage Award<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Joe Rhinehart received \u00a0Western Carolina University’s 1990 Mountain Heritage Award for his work in \u00a0preserving the history of the old Jackson county town of Webster, where he lives.<\/p>\n

Rhinehart grew up in Webster, where he attended elementary and high school. \u00a0He graduated from Pfeiffer College, received his master\u2019s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and studied journalism at the University of Oregon in Eugene. \u00a0For 27 years he taught English and journalism in the Gaithersburg, Maryland. high school before retiring and returning to Webster. \u00a0In 1974, he edited \u201cThe Webster Cookbook,\u201d based on early reflections of Jackson county life and food. \u00a0He edited \u201cThe Poems of Robert Lee Madison,\u201d WCU founder, producing a handset book that won the North Carolina Poetry Society\u2019s Charlotte Young Award.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
